Komatsu Limited is a Japanese multinational corporation that manufactures construction, mining and forestry equipment, as well as diesel engines and industrial equipment such as presses, lasers and thermoelectric generators. The headquarters is located in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. The corporation is named after the city of Komatsu, in Ishikawa Prefecture, where the company was founded in 1921. The Komatsu group of companies includes 258 other companies (215 consolidated subsidiaries and 42 equity accounted companies). Komatsu is the second largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment in the world after Caterpillar. Ko-matsu (小松) from Japanese letters. translates as "little pine".
